The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by David Ombugadu, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) challenging the Court of Appeal decision affirming the election of Abdullahi Sule of the APC as governor of Nasarawa State.
The Apex Court also reserved judgement in the appeal challenging the March 18, 2023 election of Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State.
At Tuesday’s proceedings on the Nasarawa State governorship appeal, the lead counsel to PDP and its governorship candidate, Kanu Agabi, SAN had prayed the Apex court to set aside the November 23, 2023 judgment of the Court of Appeal which upheld Abdullahi Sule as the lawfully elected governor of the state.
Counsel for Governor Sule, the APC and the electoral body, INEC urged the Apex Court panel, led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to dismiss Ombugadu’s appeal for lacking in merit, while praying it to uphold the judgment of the Appeal Court which declared Sule as validly elected governor of Nasarawa State.
The Appellate Court had upturned the Tribunal judgment on grounds of insufficient evidence by Ombugadu to prove allegations of over-voting against Sule.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court also reserved judgment on the Kebbi State governorship appeal filed by the PDP governorship candidate, Retired Maj. Gen. Aminu Bande against the election of Governor Nasir Idris of the APC.
The PDP governorship candidate in Kebbi State had lost at both the Election Petition Tribunal and the Appeal Court on his way to the Supreme Court.
