A Federal High Court in Kano Wednesday struck out the suit filed by National Unity Party, NUP, challenging its deregistration by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
The party is seeking the court’s declaration that the INEC cannot validly invoke the provision of section 225A of the Constitution as amended to deregister the NUP or any other party on account of not winning any election in the 774 local government areas and a declaration that its deregistration by the INEC was unconstitutional, null, and void.
However, when the case was called, neither NUP officials nor lawyers representing the party were in the court. The INEC was also not present nor represented by any legal practitioner.

Justice Sa’adatu Ibrahim Mark consequently struck out the matter.
