In a bid to engage, and curb youth restiveness, the National Agricultural Land Development Agency, NALDA, has began its Young Farmers Initiative Programme in Cross Rivers State, empowering 100 youths with five rabbits each, to start animal husbandry.
A statement released by the agency, stated that the beneficiaries were given four female and one male rabbits, feeds, drugs and training on how to start the business of rabbit farming.
The Executive Director, NALDA, Paul Ikonne, in the statement, encouraged the beneficiaries to be committed, in order to benefit from the wealth of rabbit farming.
In his words, “As we engage you in this lucrative business, we expect total commitment from you, in order to make money from Rabbit Farming.

The statement further noted that the state coordinator, Solomon Ubut said, the people have been empowered with knowledge and residual capacity to handle rabbits effectively.
According to him, the young farmers were selected from five local government areas of Northern Cross River, as a pilot project.
He said, “Those selected for the programme must be between 18 and 35 years of age to qualify, because the programme is for the youths that have interest in agricultural business.
“We have 25 females and 75 males engaged in this programme.
The statement said, “As you are aware, the Young Farmers’ Programme Initiatives of Mr President is targeted to empowering over 17,000 young farmers across the country.”
The scheme is to create job opportunities for our youths and reduce social vices in the society.
NALDA is collaborating with the state governments to extend the programme nation wide.
