Considering the hardship faced by commuters and transporters who make use of the Benin Asaba highway enroute the commercial city of Onitsha and beyond especially within the Niger Bridge end, Delta State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa says the suffering will only seize with the completion of the second Niger Bridge.
Governor Okowa who made this known at a joint press conference at Asaba with the corps marshal of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Boboye Oyeyemi to map out strategies for the free flow of traffic on the Niger Bridge this yuletide expressed his readiness to assist with logistics to make the road safe for users.
Part of the decisions taken after a meeting between Governor Okowa and the visiting corps marshal include setting up a taskforce comprising the police, the military, road safety officials and the delta state traffic management authority to manage the traffic conditions of the axis.
Dismantling of police and the military check points around the bridge to reduce the frustration faced by motorists and other moves aimed at easing off the traffic gridlock which their presence somehow compounds.

Governor Okowa expressed concern about reports he got on the sufferings of road users along the Asaba Niger Bridge axis hoping that with arrival and meeting with the corps marshal, a difference would be made
Boboye said his men have been deployed to the problematic part of the Niger Bridge end to ensure that no passenger was stranded along the road this festive period in the name of traffic gridlock while he advised road users to reciprocate by being patient and obeying traffic rules.
The Asaba Niger Bridge end traffic gridlock is an all year round phenomenon even the period of the covid-19 nation wide lockdown when both vehicular and human movements were restricted could not change the situation.
