The Nigeria Police has recruited 106 Bayelsa state indigenes to boost the Force’s community policing in the State.
Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, Mike Okolie who made this known in Yenagoa at one-day sensitization campaign on community policiing, said the move was part of the Inspector General of Police’s initiative to involve the people in securing their immediate environment.
The Police Commissioner highlighted the benefits of community policing and said the new recruits known as the Special Police Constabularies will assist the regular police officers in maintaining law and order in their respective localities.

A former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Sotonye Wakama who delivered the keynote address at the occasion emphasized the need for synergy between the police and the community to ensure a seamless security partnership.
The recruits who have undergone some training were selected from different vigilante groups.
The sensitization programme was witnessed by top Bayelsa State government officials, security heads and traditional rulers.
