The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has inaugurated a Joint Task Force to arrest and prosecute offenders involved in traffic infractions as part of efforts to halt the rising cases of the use of trailers to convey passengers, and the attendant fatalities.

A statement signed by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Jonas Agwu, said the Joint Task Force comprises of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, State Traffic Management Agencies, and operatives of the Corps. Others who were drafted into the Task Force include representatives of the various transport unions.

Agwu explained that the inauguration of the JTF which is in phases commenced with the commissioning of the team to mann the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway at Kakau Toll Gate in Kaduna State.
The Corps Marshal, Dauda Ali Biu emphasised the role of the Joint Task Force noting that in the last couple of months, Nigerian highways have witnessed incidents of road traffic crashes involving trailers loaded with goods, animals and persons.
In order to reverse the ugly trend, the JTF have been directed to embark on effective special patrol operations as well as conduct Mobile Court operations on the commissioned route.
Authorities of the Road Safety further noted that the exercise will be carried out across major corridors nationwide.
