Troops fighting Boko Haram in the Sambisa Forest, have been lauded for neutralising 21 Boko Haram terrorists, destroying their camps, and rescuing 386 victims of abduction, who have been in the bush for the past 10 years.

The Acting General Officer Commanding, GOC 7 Division, and Commander Sector 1 of the Nigeria Army, Brigadier General Abubakar Haruna, made this known when he was paying a morale-boosting visit to the soldiers.

Brigadier General Haruna addressed the troops inside the Sambisa Forest, in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, while welcoming the troops for conducting a 10-day successful operation tagged, “Operation Desert Sanity.”

“Our effort is to ensure that we clear remnants of terrorists in the Sambisa and give those willing to surrender the opportunity to surrender.”

General Haruna said the Chief of Army Staff is highly pleased with their commitment, to ensuring that peace and normalcy return to the North East.

“I want to commend you for your exceptional performance and professionalism exhibited during the operation, and I urge you to sustain the tempo. Our Special Forces troops, the troops of the 21 Armoured Brigade, the Civilian JTF and the Hybrid Forces have all done very well.”

The troops have so far successfully cleared several Boko Haram enclaves, killing scores of them and made recoveries of different arms, equipment, and armoured vehicles.
General Haruna thanked the Chief of Army Staff and the Theatre Commander, North East Operation Hadin Kai, Joint Task Force, for their guidance and support.
