The Federal University in Gusau, Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria is appealing to the Federal and Zamfara State governments and other relevant stakeholders to assist in securing the university against terrorists who are unleashing terror on students and staff of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Muazu Abubakar, made the call, while briefing journalists about the university’s forthcoming third, and fourth combined convocation, at the university’s premises.
He however revealed that all the students abducted had been rescued.
The Federal University in Gusau has had a fair share of the current security challenges bedevilling Zamfara State and the country, as some students and staff of the institution were abducted by suspected terrorists, and spent several months in captivity before regaining freedom.
The University’s Vice-chancellor, Professor Muazu Abubakar, listed the major challenges of the institution as inadequate funding by the government and insecurity.

He calls on stakeholders and other public-spirited individuals to support the university in the areas of funding and security, to provide a conducive learning environment for the students and staff.
Professor Abubakar, said he would discourage students from seeking transfer to other universities, saying, however, that the institution will not stop any student who desires to do so, arguing that insecurity is everywhere.
The Federal University of Gusau Vice-chancellor Professor Muazu Abubakar, disclosed that the university is graduating a total of 2,534, in the 2019–2020 and 2021–2022, with forty-three bagging first class and 676 second class honours (Upper Division).
During his term, the VC completed nine new projects, among which is a new ICT Centre, the Faculty of Education, Social Sciences, the Directorate of Academic Planning Building, Lecture Rooms Block D and E, and the construction of a perimeter fence are ongoing, though initiated by the previous vice chancellors, but happening in his time.
