The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Cross River State, has arrested two suspects for vandalizing the Tinapa Business and Leisure Resort.
Acting on a tip-off from locals, the NSCDC apprehended the suspects who were found dismantling sewage facilities, street light poles, and other metals with the intention to transport them via the Calabar River.
State Commandant of the NSCDC, Charles Brown,
noted that the arrested suspects will face trial and that further investigations are underway to apprehend the remaining 3 suspects who were at large.
Benjamin Offiong, Tinapa’s Manager of Utility and Logistics, explained that the suspects used sophisticated noise-proof machinery, making it difficult for the resort’s security personnel to be alerted on the activities of the suspect.
This incident underscores the importance of community collaboration with law enforcement in maintaining security and protecting valuable assets.
Tinapa, once envisioned as a premier trade and leisure hub, has struggled significantly over the years.
The resort’s decline has been attributed to a variety of factors, including policy inconsistencies, clashes between customs officials and operators, and uncompleted infrastructure projects like the dredging of the Calabar River, which hindered efficient import-export activities.
