The Nigerian Defence Academy, (NDA), is set to make a historic contribution to environmental conservation, by establishing the largest man-made biodiversity conservation centre in Nigeria, within the next decade.

The Commandant, Major General John Ochai, made this announcement during the ceremony for the NDA Biodiversity Conservation Centre, and the launch of a one million tree planting campaign.

Human activities have long taken a toll on our environment, leading to desert encroachment, flooding, and the extinction of vital habitats.

If left unchecked, these activities will continue to wreak havoc on our ecosystem.

In response, the Nigerian Defence Academy is launching an ambitious project; a biodiversity conservation centre, and a campaign to plant one million trees.

This initiative aims to restore and protect Nigeria’s natural environment.

During the ceremony, Major General John Ochai, emphasised that the responsibilities of the armed forces extend beyond national defense.

Protecting the environment and natural habitats is also crucial, which is why the NDA is committed to this tree planting campaign.

The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Lawal, sent a message of support, pledging the Federal Government’s commitment to conserving and protecting Nigeria’s ecosystems.

General Ochai, urged other organisations to join in the effort, emphasising the importance of giving back to the environment, to counteract the damage caused by human activities, thereby safeguarding its natural heritage, for future generations.
