The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), in its bid to boost security at the country’s International Airports, has commissioned 120 Officers of the Aviation Security (AVSEC) Special Force, trained to bear arms.
Managing Director of FAAN, Olubumi Kuku while commissioning the officers at the International wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, stated that it is a remarkable moment for the Agency, as it takes constructive steps to get the Nigerian Aviation security team kitted in line with global standards.

Kuku however allayed the fears of possible use and deployment of their arms by the security team in the course of their duty, while also cautioning passengers and Airport users to conduct themselves, and go about their businesses in orderliness within and around the Airport.
The FAAN boss noted that the arms the security personnel carry shows that they are now an elite squad that will complement the Aviation security staff that the Agency already has, explaining that what is critical is to ensure that can deter people, and do not have to use force.
Kuku disclosed that the personnel will be deployed first to five International Airports of Lagos, Kano, Port. Harcourt, Abuja and Enugu.
