The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Adamawa State Command has revealed that it’s operatives arrested no fewer than 454 suspected illicit drug traffickers from the month of June 2023 to date.
State Commander of the Agency, Femi Agboalu disclosed this to News men in Yola during a Media parley as part of activities to commemorate the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
A 14 kilometer road walk led by the State Commander of the NDLEA, alongside other Heads of security agencies and their officers and men in Adamawa State, was a match against illicit drug dealings to create public awareness as the world commemorate the 2024 International day against drug trafficking which culminates on Wednesday June 26th.
The Agency in the State is worried that despite its efforts at cutting down frequency of illicit drug dealings, it recorded 454 arrests of suspected drug traffickers in the last one year
State Commander, Agboalu who is passionate about ending drug dealings in the State disclosed that the Agency’s drug demand reduction DDR efforts have also been fruitful, with 107 residential clients treated, counseled and rehabilitated, while 222 trafficking clients received brief counseling.
The Adamawa State Commissioner for Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Reintegration, Bello Hamma Diram represented the government on the match
The road walk proceeded to the palace of the Lamido Adamawa where the NDLEA Commander solicited the assistance of the Monarch to eradicate illicit drug dealings.
The Dan Lawan Adamawa, Alhaji Sadiq Daware who addressed the people on behalf of the royal father commended the anti-drug Agency for their unrelenting fight to rid the State of drug abuse and save the youth and society of its dangerous effects.
