Airline operators have been warned to refrain from deceiving passengers over flight schedules, as serious sanctions will be imposed immediately on defaulters.

The warning is coming from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, at a media briefing in Abuja, through the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu.

On the right to compensation for air travellers by airlines for flight delays or cancellations, Achimugu insisted that air ticket transactions by cash must be immediately refunded through the same process at the terminal, and if the fare is paid through electronic transfer, it should be reverted in the same manner within 14- days to the person’s account.

The right to compensation provisions in the NCAA Regulations Act, entitles passengers to at least 25% of the fares or passenger ticket price for all flights within Nigeria, and 30% of the passenger ticket price for all international flights.

The director also clarified that the suspension of ten private jet operators was only for failing to recertify their permit for non-commercial flights, PNCF.
