The United Nations has pledged its commitment to support Enugu State in accelerating progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mohamed Malick Fall, made the commitment when he led a delegation from the UN system in Nigeria, on a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah on Friday.
The visit of Mohamed Malick Fall, the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria to Enugu State, in South East Nigeria marks his first official engagement at the state level since assuming office in the country.

He stated that his choice of Enugu State underscores the exemplary leadership and vision Governor Peter Mbah has demonstrated in pursuing the SDGs, a model he hopes to share across the continent.
At a press conference, Fall emphasized the urgency of achieving the SDGs by 2030, noting that despite the commitment made by all UN member states a decade ago, both the world and Nigeria remain off track.

He highlighted six key areas of focus that could accelerate progress such as agriculture and food security, social protection and job creation, education, energy, and digitalization.
Governor Mbah told the diplomats that his government’s vision to eradicate poverty in the State within the next seven years has driven it to implement radical reforms in the social services sector.

During their visit, the UN delegation is also expected to visit key State reform projects, including the pilot Smart Green School project, an initiative of Governor Mbah, aimed at modernizing educational infrastructure in Enugu State.
