Zamfara State Government says plans are underway to focus more on entrepreneurial, technical, and vocational education, beginning from the 2024–2025 academic session, to produce manpower that can be self-reliant, economical, job creators, not job seekers, and contribute to national development.
The Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, gave the hint, while speaking with journalists, shortly after inspecting the ongoing renovation and upgrading of education infrastructure, at Government Science Secondary School, Gusau, and the Zamfara College of Arts and Science, (ZACAS).
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-led administration in Zamfara State, had on assumption, declared a State of Emergency in the education sector, to reverse the negative index of poor enrollment, academic performance and huge statistics of out-of-school children in the state.
To achieve this objective, the administration believes that renovating and upgrading educational infrastructure, to ensure a conducive teaching and learning environment, for staff and students is critical, and remains one of its top priorities.
The Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Wadatau Madawaki, was at the Government Science Secondary School in Gusau, and the state’s College of Arts and Science, (ZACAS), to inspect the ongoing renovation and upgrading of classrooms, dormitories, kitchens, hostels and libraries, among others, which are in the first phase of the project.
He revealed that the state government under Governor Dauda Lawal, has planned to establish technical schools in the three senatorial zones, and recruit 200 qualified teachers, aimed at improving technical and vocational education, to produce skilled graduates, to meet current needs.
The Executive Chairperson of the Senior Secondary School Education Board, Hauwa Ibrahim, applauded the efforts of Governor Dauda Lawal, and the Commissioner for Education, Wadatau Madawaki, in revamping the sector, attesting that befitting educational facilities in the state are enhancing quality teaching and learning, as they serve as a morale booster to staff and students.
The students, on their part, could not hide their joy as they expressed gratitude to Governor Dauda Lawal, for giving them, befitting facilities to sleep on, and to carry out their academic activities with ease.
For them, it takes a man who has their best interest, and is committed to empowering the youth educationally, to invest in educational infrastructure.
