No fewer than 12 schools in Jos, the Plateau state capital are at risk of collapsing.
This was made known by the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang during inauguration of Committee to investigate the collapse of Saints Academy Jos where some children recently lost their lives.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the children who recently lost their lives during the tragic collapse of their classroom block on July 12.
During a visit to the site of the collapse building, Governor Caleb Mutfwang had promised to thoroughly investigate the matter. It is in fulfillment of his promise that the Committee made up of professionals in the field of building and other relevant agencies is was inaugurated.
The collapse of the school building seems to have opened a can of worms as the Committee is also to beam its searchlight on other buildings, worthy of mention is the burnt Jos Main Market.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee, its Chairman, Professor Slim Matawal, assured that a thorough job will be done to forestall future occurrences.
While the Terms of Reference and duration of the Committee work have not been made public yet, all eyes will be on the selected professionals to bring closure to a tragic event that will linger in the memories of many for some time.
