The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC has dissociated self from the August 1 planned nationwide protest, but insists, the police must provide protection for any protester.
The talking point in most gathering and media space for days now is the planned protest against hunger and bad governance, scheduled to begin on August 1, 2024.
While many have concluded that Organised Labour will willingly jump into the train of the protest, the TUC says it has not been contacted by the organisers.
TUC President, Festus Osifo, at a briefing in Abuja, also asked President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the feud between Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the NNPCL over the contentious issues of bad fuel or not, and the non-supply or otherwise of crude oil among others issues.
With many displeased with N70,000 National Minimum Wage agreed by Organised Labour, Osifo tried to justify reasons behind the agreed amount. He said workers asked for Living Wage but got Minimum Wage of N70,000 which is a 135% increase from the 2019 wage of N30,000.
On the blockade at the National Secretariat of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, over leadership crisis, the TUC appreciates the police for intervening swiftly to avert clashes at the office of one of its biggest affiliate unions.
