The Nigerian Senate has expressed deep sorrow and profound regret over the passing of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District until his untimely death.
A statement signed by Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, describes the late lawmaker as an exemplary leader, a committed public servant, and an indefatigable advocate for his constituents.
The Upper Chamber says his passing represents a significant loss to the Senate, his community, and the country. “Before his career in public service, Senator Ubah was a prominent businessman and philanthropist, making a lasting impact in various fields, his legacy will be deeply missed.
Before entering public service, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah became a successful businessman and philanthropist. As the founder and CEO of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, he played a significant role in Nigeria’s energy sector, driving economic growth and creating numerous job opportunities. Through the Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation, his philanthropic efforts provided vital support to the less privileged, including scholarships, healthcare, and other essential services, positively impacting countless lives.
During his tenure in the Senate, Ubah demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the progress and development of Anambra South and Nigeria as a whole. He was a beacon of hope, a champion of economic empowerment, and a steadfast advocate for legislative reforms aimed at improving the lives of all Nigerians.
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio expressed his heartfelt condolences, saying: “Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was a dedicated and passionate legislator who left an indelible mark on our country. His commitment to his constituents and his work in the Senate were exemplary.
Akpabio says he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him as “the Nigerian Senate extends its deepest sympathies to Senator Ubah’s family, friends, constituents, the Government and people of Anambra State. “His memory will forever remain in our hearts, and his contributions to the nation’s progress will continue to inspire us all.”
Meanwhile, scanty information have emerged on how Senator Ifeanyi Ubah died in the early hours of Saturday in London in what AIT.live learnt from a source close to the family was cardiac related.
Ubah had a close shave with death in the build up to the 2023 elections when his vehicle and others in his convoy were rained with bullets in Enugu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. Six policemen who were with him were killed in the incident which occurred.
He had eventually contested and won the election, and later announced his defection from the Young Progressives Party, YPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Those close to him say he had changed much in terms of personal lifestyle with noticeable reduction in his weight.
The two-term senator was until his death at the age of 52 the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Petroleum Downstream.
