The Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA), Zamfara State Branch, has expressed concern over the level of brain drain in the medical sector, as a result of poor remuneration in Nigeria and insecurity in the state.

The vice chairman of the association, Doctor Ibrahim Hano, said this while briefing newsmen on behalf of the state’s chairman, Doctor Sanusi, ahead of the association’s scientific conference.

He said many of the doctors are leaving the state daily, due to insecurity.

The State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, (NMA), is calling on the Federal Government to step up the fight against banditry, saying that the situation is worsening by the day, and has overwhelmed the already fragile health sector in the state.

The NMA also urged the Federal Government to change its strategies in the ongoing fight against banditry, and consider relocating a significant military command to Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, to prosecute the war against insecurity and restore peace.

The NMA Vice Chairman, Doctor Ibrahim Hano, revealed that in the last month, ten medical doctors left the state because of the prevailing security challenges in Zamfara.

The association commended Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State for repositioning the health sector, with upgrading, renovations and equipping hospitals, especially the Ahmad Yariman Bakura Special Hospital, with modern equipment, which they believe will go a long way towards bringing it back to its original position.

It appreciates Governor Dauda Lawal for setting up a committee, to review the salaries of doctors and other health workers across Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.
