The Cycling Federation of Nigeria has addressed recent social media speculation surrounding the country’s first Olympic cyclist, Ese Ukpeseraye.
The federation’s president, Giandomenico Massari, explained that Ukpeseraye did not borrow equipment to participate in the keirin and track events.
Massari attributed the controversy to late notification from the Olympic organizers, the international cycling Union about additional slot for the track events.
Having already qualified for the road events, the federation had not procured the required equipment for the track events.
To resolve the issue, the federation reached out to its strategic partners to secure the necessary equipment.
Ukpeseraye had initially traveled to Paris for the road event before the notification for the additional track event slot was received on July 23.
The federation’s prompt action ensured Ukpeseraye’s participation in the track events, marking a historic milestone for Nigerian cycling.
