Sardauna Local Government Area popularly known as the Mambilla Plateau known for its large scale Livestock farming, particularly cattle is the epicentre for the outbreak of the Hermorraghic Septicemia Livestock disease in Taraba State.
The State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security says samples taken to the laboratory for tests, confirm the disease which has killed at least 1,000 cows in a span of one month.
Director of Veterinary Services, Francis Nathan says the State Government has swung into action to contain the outbreak as treatment and vaccination exercises have begun in Sardauna, Gashaka, and Takum Local Government Areas, where cases have been recorded.
The Ministry also appealed for calm, as the disease cannot be transmitted to humans. Meanwhile, the State Government has also placed a ban on the movement of livestock in and out of the affected three Local Government Areas to avoid further spread of the bacterial disease.
