In the quest to maintain law and order and sustain peace and tranquility in Edo State, the Chief Security Officer, Governor Godwin Obaseki has called on the Nigerian Army to assist the state and other security agencies to mop up illegal fire arms in some localities.
The call was made in Ehor, Uhumwonde Local Government Area, when he formally handed over a forward operating base built by the state government to the military.
The forward operating base, FOB, in Ehor of Uhumwonde Local Government Area was built by the Edo State Government to ensure safety of residents and commuters along the Benin-Auchi road who had to grapple with incessant cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and banditry.
Another one is being built along Sobe in Owan West between Edo and Ondo states to fortify the areas.
The Governor also appealed for the approval for an additional one in Edo North.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, represented at the event by the General Officer Commanding two division, Major General Obinna Onubogu, noted that the Ehor base has helped to secure the communities where it is situated.
