As part of its commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainability, the Cross River State Government has rolled out an expansive oil palm programme, acquiring 3.5 million improved oil palm sprouted nuts, from the Nigerian Institute for Oil Palm Research, NIFOR.
These sprouted nuts will be distributed to oil palm farmers across the state, at a subsidised rate of N100 per nut.
To drive the success of the distribution of 3.5 million improved oil palm sprouted nuts procured by the State Government to oil palm farmers in the state, the government has established a multi-sectoral committee tasked with overseeing the distribution and monitoring processes.
The initiative will commence with a robust training programme for enumerators, followed by targeted community engagement and the detailed profiling of farmers across the three senatorial districts of the state.
At a stakeholders’ meeting held in Calabar, the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Irrigation Development, Johnson Ebokpo, highlighted the strategic importance of local collaboration in achieving the programme’s objectives.

Stakeholders at the meeting voiced strong approval for the initiative, expressing their commitment to utilising the resources provided effectively.
With this initiative, Cross River State is taking a significant step towards enhancing its agricultural productivity and economic growth.
