As schools resume for the 2024/2025 academic session in Bauchi, some parents are lamenting the harsh economic realities as factors that may affect low enrolment of children in private schools, due to increased school fees and other challenges.
According to the parents, the hikes in fuel price and foodstuffs in the Nigerian market, has over the time, made life unbearable for them.
The announcement made by the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, has indicated that pupils are to resume school with effect from Sunday, 8th Sept 2024, for the First Term 2024/2025 academic session.
ait.live observed that not all parents sent their children to school on the first day, as some of them were seen playing around.
During a visit to some schools, however, pupils were seen in their classes.

The issue of school fees, hikes in fuel price, transportation fees for the parents and the pupils on a daily basis, and increase in the price of foodstuffs and many more are some of the challenges many parents in Nigeria are battling with.
The proprietress of one of the private schools in Bauchi, says, no doubt, with the current situation, many parents will struggle to pay fees, and expressed fear that it may affect school enrolment, thereby leading to a rise in out-of-school children.
Some parents said things are not going well with them, as it gets harder and harder on a daily basis.
According to other parents who don’t want to talk on camera, they want their children to have a good education, but they are struggling to barely make ends meet.
