Management of the University of Benin says three students were rescued from the rubble of an off-campus three-storey building occupied by students of the institution in Ekosodin community.
The University’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire confirmed that no life was lost as the three students are in stable condition and receiving treatment the University of Benin Teaching Hospital.

Ehanire said that the building collapsed following downpour that started in the early hours of Saturday. Meanwhile,
a student of the University who was an eyewitness told AIT.live that students from other areas in the community and staff members of the University rushed to the scene of the incident to rescue those trapped in the collapsed building including the daughter of the owner of the house.
The Edo State Government says emergency responders have rescued all trapped students in the collapsed three-storey building on Ekhator Street, off Ekosodin Road beside the University of Benin, in Benin City.
A statement signed by Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, revealed that there were no fatalities as at the time to this report and investigation is ongoing to unravel the immediate and remote cause of the incident.
He added that excavators and other heavy equipment are on site to clear the rubble and also remove other parts of the distressed building.
In addition to a full investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the collapse, there will be an audit of other buildings in the area to ascertain their status.
State government officials have been stationed at the site to provide updates on the incident.
