Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf has reopened the Livestock and Horticulture training institutes, with the presentation of admission letters to 340 students in a move to engage the youths meaningfully.
Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf charged the newly admitted students to be committed to the training which he believes will enable them to be gainfully employed upon graduation.
Livestock farming is a significant part of the culture and economic activities of people in Northern Nigeria which are responsible for the production of meat, milk, skin, bone and horn products. They are also used to transport people and goods, pull ploughs, and lift water from wells.

Consequently, Governor Yusuf upon assumption of office approved the renovation of the previously abandoned Livestock Institute that has today, admitted 140 students for training at this commissioning ceremony. The Governor says youth empowerment still remains top on his thematic areas and he wants the students to be academically disciplined.
For the Horticulture Institute, it will focus on training in the beautification and health of the environment and would offer the students a pathway to earn a livelihood in the sector.
