Bauchi Civil Society Organisation, Women Empowerment Initiative, (WEIN), has joined the international campaign that aims to raise awareness about sexual and gender-based violence, to commemorate the 2024 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from November 25 to December 10th annually in Bauchi.
The Civil society organization (CSO) strongly advocates for policy change and demands stricter laws and accountability mechanisms, to protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable.
The marking of the 16 Days of Activism by the Civil society organization (CSO) was low keyed.
This year’s theme, towards Beijing 2030 is, “Unite to Fight Violence Against Women and Girls.”
In attendance are school children, traditional institution, carers and other stakeholders, laying emphasis for the victims of Sexual and Gender based violence (SGBV) to speak out.
Interestingly, the event was interactive, for the girls, care givers and the invited stakeholders, as meaningful contributions were tabled, to address the scourge of Sexual Gender-based Violence.
For them, ending Sexual and Gender based Violence (SGBV) requires a collective effort, hence the need to unite, attributing poverty as one of the major factors.
Asabe Yusuf is a lawyer from the Bauchi State Ministry of Justice.
She said sexual and gender based violence (SGBV) cases are not only restricted to adults alone, but even minors are falling victim, urging parents to closely monitor their wards.
With the interactive sessions, stakeholder here, the traditional institutions, Civil society organization (CSOs,) governments and parents have been urged to work beyond the campaign, towards creating a future, where violence has no place, with dignity and freedom.
