A 10-member Committee, comprising 5 members from the Federal government and 5 from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will be set-up over the dispute arising from the 50% telecommunication tariff increase granted GSM operators.
This is the highpoint of a meeting called by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The NLC had vowed to hold a demonstration over the tariff increment, before the intervention meeting by the Nigerian federal authorities.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who spoke after the meeting said that the Committee’s report will be submitted within 2 weeks.
“We are going to meet here continuously for the next two weeks. And at the end of the second week, we will now come up with a recommendation that we will give to government and the organised Labour for final consideration”, the Minister said.

The NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero said that it will wait till the outcome of the Committee’s report to determine its next line of action.
The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijanni; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida; Minister of Labour and Employment, Alhaji Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi; the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu; and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu were among top government officials at the meeting.
