The Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has said that over 100,000 people have been killed in the 12-year old insurgency in the northeast of the country.
Zulum revealed this figure in a chat with the state house correspondents, after his meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, at the presidential villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

The governor also said that 2,600 insurgents have surrendered and are now in custody, emphasising that not all of them are criminals.
While noting that many of them are women and young children who have been trained to handle AK-47, Zulum assured that they would be subjected to the extant laws of the country.
He added that no law prescribes the killing of surrendered insurgents, saying that they would be trained for the purpose of reintegration into the society.
He also assured that victims of the insurgency, would be taken care of, saying: “They will not be left behind.”
