Fuel scarcity looms in Cross River, Akwa Ibom as IPMAN threatens to shut stations

There are fears that Scarcity of fuel may occur in Cross River State, as Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), threatens to shut down independent depots and over four hundreds filling stations in the state following alleged police harassment.

The fuel scarcity may also affect Akwa Ibom State as it depend on Depots in Calabar for Premium Motor Spirit.

Chairman of IPMAN in Cross River State , Comrade Robert Obi, made this known to Newsmen in Calabar.

He said his members will be forced to down tool and shut all filling stations if the harassment of his members is not checked.

The IPMAN President said its secretariat in Calabar was recently invaded by some policemen who were reluctant to state their purpose of invasion.

Obi accused police of a legal tussle in the Association and attempting to impose a new leadership on the members, especially in Calabar Depot.

The IPMAN, Calabar Depot comprises over 500 Independent petroleum marketers from Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Benue States including members from some Eastern states.

Police Spokesperson in Cross River State, DSP Irene Ugbo, said she is not aware of the development as the Commissioner of police, Aminu Alhassan believes in the rule of law.
