Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari has expressed optimism that the issue of perennial water shortages in the state, will soon be a thing of the past when the new water treatment plant begins full operation in May 2022.
Masari who was speaking shortly after inspecting the ongoing rehabilitation and revitalization works at the Ajiwa Water Treatment Plant said after the completion of the installation of equipment, it will supply 50 million litres of potable water daily to residents in the state.

Ajiwa Water Treatment Plant was constructed and inaugurated in the 1970s but was later abandoned by the previous administrations despite serving the state capital and its environs.
With the Water Resources ministry taking the lion share of the previous budgets, as well as a 41 billion Naira allocation in the 2022 budget, the present administration says, it is moving to solve the problem of acute water shortage in the state.
According to Masari, having completed the renovation works at the Ajiwa Dam, and the current rehabilitation of the several pumps, which are over 40 years, and the installation of new ones, to be ready by May 2022, it will complement that of Zobe, recently commissioned by President Buhari.
He further said the people of the state will appreciate the efforts being made by his government, long after he leaves, as the immediate impact will not be felt now.
Masari also said that the future of the water sector in the state is bright, calling on the successive government to sustain and expand the work done in the water treatment plant at Ajiwa.
