Bauchi State Government has threatened to collaborate with security agencies and the traditional institution to arrest any parent who rejects immunisation of eligible children against polio.
This an indicator that 13 out of the 20 LGAs in the State are still zero dose polio vaccines and non-compliant with immunisation.
Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State primary Health Care Development Board, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed mentioned this during the flagging off of massive polio vaccination campaign in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund, Unicef.
Madina Quarters was chosen for the flagging off of the vaccination campaign, being one among the non-compliant communities for polio immunisation and other vaccines within Bauchi metropolitan city.
According to Dr. Mohammed and the village head of Tirwun, Mohammed Tirwun, who spoke during the flagging off of the campaign, the State Government in partnership with Unicef and other development partners have committed millions of funds to ensure that no child is affected by polio virus and other diseases, therefore warning that, they are not going to accept any reports of zero dose anymore.
Unicef and World Health Health Organisation, WHO representatives, say the UN agencies are committed to ensure that no child is left behind in the pursuit of polio free society and other diseases.
It could be recalled that, the Unicef Chief of Bauchi Field Office, Nuzhat Rafique during her awareness visit to the Emir of Dass, HRH Usman Bilyaminu emphasised that this may be the last chance for Nigeria to kick Polio out or risk global support to fight the disease.
