In a bid to promote the rights and dignity of women with intellectual disabilities, the Down Syndrome Foundation, has launched an advocacy campaign in Bauchi State, kicking against gender-based violence and supporting their right to life as human beings.
The administrator of the Down Syndrome Foundation, Nike Dennis, made the appeal in Bauchi, while engaging about one hundred women with intellectual disabilities, on safety awareness, in Bogoro Local Government.
Intellectual disabilities are said to be a form of disability with conditions that limit intelligence and disrupt abilities necessary for living independently; a sign of lifelong conditions usually appearing during childhood.
The organization exhibited Heart-touching pictures of about 50 selected persons living with different forms of intellectual disabilities in the Bogoro Local Government of Bauchi State.
The women with intellectual disabilities are said to also face sexual abuse and discrimination in communities.

It is against this backdrop that Down Syndrome Foundation is advocating for their rights to be free of any abuse, and be treated as human beings.
Earlier during the stakeholders meeting, the state assembly member, representing Bogoro, Musa Nakwada, and Bauchi State Executive Secretary for the Agency for Persons Living with Disabilities, Briska, made commitments for support and protecting their rights.
The advocacy campaign group insisted that women with intellectual disabilities deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, devoid of any stigma.
