Niger State government has announced a donation of N1 billion to the victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa local area of the state and awarded another 7 billion naira for the construction of Mokwa-Rabba road and 4 bridges washed away.
The government also revealed that it will provide 10 trucks each of rice, beans, maize, millet, and sorghum to the flood victims.
Twelve days after the unfortunate flash flood that ravaged 3 Mokwa communities killing about 206 persons and displacing over 4,000 persons, Niger State Governor Umar Bago has personally paid a sympathy visit to the people.
Recall that the governor travelled to Saudi Arabia for this year’s Hajj exercise when the incident occurred, and upon his return on Sunday, June 8, he visited the scene of the incident and commiserated with the victim on June 9.

During his visit, he announced the donation of 1 billion naira as the contribution of the state government to cushion the effects of the disaster alongside the donation of 50 trucks of grains, including rice, beans, maize, sorghum and millet.

Following up on the promise of the federal government to begin rebuilding the over 400 houses destroyed, the governor ordered the Ministry of Lands and Surveys to immediately make available a certificate of occupancy to that effect.
The Government has also awarded a 7 billion naira contract for the construction of the Mokwa Rabba Road and four bridges, which aim to improve transportation and enhance connectivity, particularly for communities recently devastated by severe flooding.

In an updated figure of the disaster, the acting Director-General of the State Emergency Management Agency, NSEMA, Hussaini Ibrahim, said so far, a total of 206 persons lost their lives while 82 persons also sustained injuries.
