The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, UNICEF, in collaboration with the Plateau State government, has commenced vaccination and sensitisation of its residents against cholera outbreak.
The outbreak has resulted in three deaths with several cases in Bokkos local government area of the state.
The officer in charge of vaccine security and logistics, UNICEF Plateau State Abubakar Shafa disclosed that Bokkos Local Government Area has received over 287,000 doses of the vaccine.
The recent outbreak of cholera in Bokkos local government area of Plateau State has raised serious concerns. To address these, the people are encouraged to take advantage of the cholera vaccine to protect lives and prevent its spread.
They are also challenged to adhere to proper sanitation and a clean environment, which remain critical to both prevention and long-term control of cholera.

According to the vaccine security and logistics, UNICEF Abubakar Shafa, the organisation is working in collaboration with the Plateau State government to ensure that the situation is brought under control, especially amongst children and the vulnerable.
Some of the residents applauded UNICEF and the Plateau State Government for their rapid response as a way forward in reducing the impact on communities.
They are hopeful that such collaboration will be sustained and extended to other parts of the state to ensure a healthy society for the good of all.
