Following the 2025 flood predictions by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NiHSA) and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), the National Orientation Agency (NOA), in collaboration with key partners, has launched nationwide Flood Mitigation Campaign to enhance public awareness and preparedness.

Speakers at the campaign held in Paikon-Kore Community in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, highlighted the vulnerability of over 1,000 communities across Nigeria to high flood risk.

Director General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu—represented by the Director of Environment, Climate, and Energy, Emeka Egbugara, emphasized that Gwagwalada remains highly vulnerable to flooding due to intense rainfall and rapid urban development.

Other speakers, including the representative of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Kunle Awojemila stressed the need for effective collaboration, grassroots engagement, and widespread knowledge-sharing to combat flood threats.

The nationwide campaign is designed to promote resilience, equip residents with timely information, practical safety tips, as well as proactive strategies for mitigating flood risks.

The 2025 Annual Flood Outlook released by the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), identified 1,249 communities across 176 LGAs in 30 states and the FCT as high flood risk areas.
