Aviation workers have called off their indefinite strike that was billed to start today.
One of the aviation union leaders, Ocheme Aba told AIT’s Funke Ogunlolu that the postponement till August 31 is not a permanent solution but the outcome of planned negotiations with the federal government within the period.
Aba said the negotiations will determine the union’s next line of action.
The union leader insisted that all their demands must be met as they are not ready to shift ground on the matters which have lingered for years.
Meanwhile, the federal government has said that the suspension of the planned strike by aviation unions is a welcome development that will allow for more negotiations.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in a statement through his official X account on Sunday night commended the unions for shelving the planned strike.
Keyamo explained that his longstanding ties with labour leaders played a role in creating a room to find lasting solutions to issues that have been pending in the sector long before his assumption of office, adding that he believes the issues will be resolved to their satisfaction.
