The Bauchi State Police Command says it has launched investigations into Tuesday’s robbery at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi male hostel, where hundreds of students were robbed of phones, laptops, and other valuables, leaving several persons injured.
The attack sparked a student protest the next morning.
Police spokesman, Ahmed Wakili, said a team led by the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO), Chief superintendent of Police, (CSP) Yahaya Yunusa, arrested three suspects, Mansur Yakubu, Abbas Auwal and Musa Bala, all 20 years old residents of Lushi, Bauchi metropolis.
Police say they allegedly conspired with 13 others from Birshi community, to carry out the raid.
Prime suspect, Musa Bala confessed that he was invited by the mastermind, known as “Daddy”, a Birshin Fulani resident, whose house shares a fence with the Polytechnic.
Bala, recently released from prison three months ago, admitted to taking part in the robbery.

Following the unrest during the protest, police said 48 students – 36 male and 12 female – were arrested, as a result of which the Commissioner of Police, ordered the release of the female suspects, while the males will be profiled and screened, before release.
According to the statement, the police commissioner, Sani Aliyu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation, to investigate the circumstances for the tragic act by the students, while others in connection with the violence will be arraigned in court.
