The Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations against SARS and other units of the Nigerian Police has compensated 20 victims who suffered different violations of their rights by officers and men of defunct SARS.
The Independent Investigative Panel on Human Rights Violations had since its inaugural sitting in November 2020, received 297 petitions, from across 29 states, including the FCT.
The cases received included illegal arrests, extrajudicial killings, torture, unlawful prolonged detention, among others.
According to the Secretary of the panel, Hillary Ogbonna, 144 cases have been concluded, while the rest have not been torched.

The compensation ranges between 10miliion, 5million, 3million, 500 thousand Naira etc.
25 cases were struck out, while 12 were withdrawn and 1 dismissed.
A total of 146million Naira was disbursed to the 20 victims.
The panel has assured the victims that the perpetrators will face justice, despite the compensation, as the Attorney General of the Federation will charge them to court.
