President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Dr. Christopher Kolade, describing the late diplomat, broadcaster, and corporate leader as “one of Nigeria’s intellectual treasures” and “a symbol of integrity and service.”
In a heartfelt tribute issued by the State House on Thursday, the President said he received the News of Dr. Kolade’s death with “profound sadness,” noting that the 92-year-old lived an extraordinary life defined by excellence, patriotism, and moral strength.
“Dr. Kolade was among the finest of men, exceptionally brilliant, statesmanly, diligent, and with unimpeachable integrity,” President Tinubu stated.
He lauded the late elder statesman for his immense contributions to corporate Nigeria, especially his pioneering role in corporate governance and human resource management, describing him as “a custodian of our enterprise history.”
President Tinubu highlighted Dr. Kolade’s sterling career, which spanned public service, diplomacy, and the private sector.
The late icon was a former Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation, and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The President also recalled Dr. Kolade’s humanitarian efforts through the Christopher Kolade Foundation, which provided extensive support to education and health initiatives, particularly for sickle cell patients.
“He served Nigeria dutifully, with honesty and great dedication.”
“From his early years as an education officer to his time as a diplomat and corporate leader, Dr. Kolade left ineffaceable stamps of distinction in every role,” the President noted.
While describing Dr. Kolade’s death as “agonising,” President Tinubu urged Nigerians to celebrate his legacy of discipline, humility, and public service.
“He will remain an inspiration for us and for many generations. He was a representation of the true Nigerian, selfless and resilient. May God Almighty, whom he served so faithfully, grant him eternal rest,” the Nigerian leader concluded in his tribute.
Dr. Kolade who died at the age of 92, was widely respected as a broadcaster, boardroom leader, and moral compass in Nigeria’s public life.
