Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brigadier. General Buba Marwa (Rtd) has commended operatives of the agency for sustaining the momentum in Nigeria’s war against drug trafficking and abuse under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja during a ceremony to honour 220 officers for outstanding performance and decorate 15 senior officers with new ranks, Marwa said the NDLEA has recorded remarkable achievements in the last 30 months.

According to him, the agency made 45,853 arrests, seized over 8.5 million kilograms of assorted illicit drugs, and secured 9,263 convictions across the country.

Within the same period, more than 26,000 drug users were counselled and rehabilitated, while 9,848 sensitisation activities were conducted under the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.

Marwa described drug trafficking and abuse as an existential threat to Nigeria’s social fabric and national security, noting that each kilogram of drugs seized and every cartel dismantled represents “a critical blow to criminal networks that fuel crime and terrorism.”

He reaffirmed NDLEA’s commitment to maintaining professionalism through its reward and motivation system, which he said has boosted morale, strengthened discipline, and deepened the culture of integrity across the agency.

Marwa expressed appreciation to President Tinubu, the National Assembly, the Minister of Justice, the Judiciary, and international partners including UNODC, INL, UK Border Force, and the governments of France and Germany for their continuous support in achieving a drug-free Nigeria.
