National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says the purported secret airport for drug smuggling does not exist in Kebbi State, North-West Nigeria.
This is the outcome of its findings, after the NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier-General Buba Marwa (Rtd), ordered the State Command to conduct a thorough investigation about the existence of an alleged airport in Argungu Forest, used for cocaine trafficking, between Nigeria and Bogota, Columbia.
Kebbi State NDLEA Commander, Rabi’u Abdullahi Sokoto, made the clarification at a joint news briefing with the State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.
“Investigations indicate that there’s nobody in the state with the name Ibrahim Musa, Assistant Comptroller of Customs (Rtd), who allegedly built the airport.”
On its part, the Kebbi State Police Command described the report as baseless, misleading and an orchestrated attempt to tarnish the image of Kebbi State and the Police Command.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, in Birnin Kebbi, says the report was aimed at creating unnecessary fear, emboldening unscrupulous elements, and undermining the determination, bravery and professionalism of officers to combat crime.
Kebbi State Information Commissioner, Yakubu Ahmed, described the false report as childish, illogical and laughable.
He says, “The government urges the people of Kebbi State to be at alert and ignore such antics and dangerous tactics.”
The Commissioner emphasised that, “the enemies of the state will continue to do more; do not give them the chance to succeed.”
