United States has said it will work closely with Nigeria to defeat and dismantle terrorists networks wreaking havoc and killing thousands in Africa’s most populous nation.
Defence Secretary, Pete Hegseth said this in a social media post after a meeting he held at the Pentagon in Washington with Nigerian delegation led by National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Hegseth wrote on X,
“Yesterday, I met with Nigeria’s National Security Advisor and his team to discuss the horrific violence against Christians in their country.”
“Under @POTUS leadership, DOW is working aggressively with Nigeria to end the persecution of Christians by jihadist terrorists.”
Hegseth explained that the President Donald Trump administration is intensifying its partnership with Nigeria to address the activities of jihadist groups accused of carrying out alleged assaults on Christians.
He stressed that Washington is committed to working closely with Nigeria to curb the attacks.

Trump had accused the Nigerian government of turning a blind eye to the killings of Christians across the country.
This comes as abduction of 315 school children and teachers occurred on Thursday at a Catholic school in a town in Niger State. This came just days after 24 female students, all of whom are said to be muslims by state government officials were also taken hostage by terrorists from an all-girls school in Kebbi State.
