Christmas has come early for the residents of Abua/Odual Local Government Area.
To mark his first 100 days in office, the Council Chairman, Owolubi Ofori, has launched a series of economic and social interventions expected to provide jobs for at least 70 people.
Special guest at the event and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, who unveiled a fleet of vehicles, including haulage trucks, mini-buses, and an ambulance, commended the Chairman for redefining grassroots governance and pledged to draw the attention of the government for urgent repair of the Ahoada-Abua road.
Determined to address the transport challenges in the area, the Chairman unveiled 35 mini-buses and four 14-seater buses.
Speaking to AIT, Ofori explained that the initiative was borne out of the need to provide affordable commuting options in an area previously dominated by motorcycles.
The intervention didn’t stop at passenger transport.
The fleet also included two haulage vehicles and 30 motorcycles.
Also, the Chairman ended an 18-year wait for an emergency medical response with a brand-new ambulance.
Community leaders showered praise on the Chairman for fulfilling his campaign promises so early in his tenure.
They also extended gratitude to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for his role in the leadership process that produced the Chairman.
The Special Guest of Honour, and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, lauded the “bold steps.”
