Niger State government has received the remaining 130 abducted pupils, students and teachers from the St Mary’s Catholic Schools, Papiri in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State, hinting at reviewing the operations of boarding schools in the state.
On the faces of the remaining 130 released students, pupils and teachers of the St Mary’s Catholic Schools is that of joy as they were eager to be reunited with their families after spending about one month in captivity.
The representative of the National Security Adviser at the hand over ceremony and National Coordinator, National Counter Terrorism Center, Major General Adamu Laka said the rescue was as a result of intense and coordinated operations by the National Security Advisor in conjunction with the Department of State Services, the Armed Forces, the Nigerian Police, other security agencies and International partners, which has yielded another landmark achievement of rescuing the victims unhurt.
For Governor Umar Bago, the state government is happy with the release, citing the ages of some underage children as worrisome; hence, the government will review the operations of boarding schools in the state.
With this release of the remaining 130 school children and teachers, it has brought to an end the enduring trauma the parents and loved ones of the abducted victims have been passing through.
