President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has announced automatic employment for two sons of his police rider, Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Hussani Ibrahim, who died in a fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.

The announcement was made on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday as Akpabio informed his colleagues of the tragic incident. DSP Ibrahim, who served as the Senate President’s rider, has since been buried according to Islamic rites.

In a heartfelt condolence speech, Senator Akpabio eulogised the late officer as a man who deeply understood the value of work and service.

Addressing the family, Senator Akpabio said: “Your late father understood the value of work and service. He devoted himself to it. Unfortunately, instead of earning a laurel for the devotion, he earned death. But it is death that is not in vain. It is death that testifies to his legacy of service. May the Lord accept his soul.”

The Senate President extended his sympathies to the bereaved family, the Inspector-General of Police, and the entire Nigeria Police Force.

“I commiserate with the family, the Inspector-General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force over the loss of this courageous, fearless, and daring officer,” he stated. “While I pray to God to accept his soul, may He in His infinite mercy grant the family and the Nigeria Police Force the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.”

The offer of automatic employment for DSP Ibrahim’s sons stands as a direct gesture of support from the Senate President to the family of the officer, honoring his legacy and sacrifice.

Meanwhile, the Senate observed a minute silence in honour of the advanced dispatch rider attached to Akpabio, who was crushed to death by a truck driver in the line of duty.

Senators described the deceased, Hassan Husseini, as a committed and loyal staff member whose death is a painful loss to the National Assembly and the nation.

Husseini, who hailed from Kogi State, had been working with the Senate President since 2023 as an advance motorbike rider responsible for clearing the way ahead of the Senate President’s convoy during official movements.

He was reportedly crushed by a truck while on official assignment with the Senate President’s convoy en route from Lagos to Ibadan for a ceremony.

The Senate prayed for the repose of his soul and extended condolences to his family, colleagues, and loved ones.

In a related development, the Senate also honoured Ibrahim Tukur who also recently passed on. He was a committed and dedicated driver of 25 years for the Senator representing Kogi East Senatorial District, Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho.
