Terrorists operating in the forest areas of Borgu and Agwara local government areas of Niger State have launched separate attacks killing 42 persons, burning down the Kasuwan-Daji market and destroying the Catholic mission house.
The attack, according to sources also led to the carting away of motorcycles and over 200 thousand cash from the mission house while the priest managed to escape the attack.
Confirming the attack, the spokesman of the police, Superintendent Wasi’u Abiodun said on January 3 at about 9pm, information was received that suspected terrorists from the National Park Forest along Kabe district at about 4:30pm same date, invaded Kasuwan-daji located at Demo village via Kabe and burnt the market, looted shops and carted away food items.

Similarly, Abiodun confirmed that on January 4 at about 8am, reports indicated that over 30 victims lost their lives during the attack, while some persons were also kidnapped after which a joint security team visited the scene.
The police further added that efforts are ongoing to rescue the kidnapped victims, while further development will be communicated.
This recent attack is coming barely 24 hours after the state government declared that schools will reopen on January 12 following a review of the security situation in the state after the abduction and release of over 200 school children and 12 teachers from St Mary’s Catholic Schools Papiri in Agwara local government area of the state.
