Zamfara State Government is set to improve connectivity and security in the state with plans to site an airstrip in Anka Local Government Area.
This follows the constitution of a technical committee to identify a suitable location for the proposed facility.
In a statement issued by the Information Officer of the State Ministry of Works, Jamilu Bello, the initiative is expected to open up economic opportunities and enhance access to the once hard-to-reach community.
According to the statement, the Zamfara State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has constituted and deployed a high-level technical committee to determine the most suitable site for the proposed Anka Airstrip.
Jamilu Bello said the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Lawal Barau Bungudu, is coordinating the exercise in collaboration with key stakeholders.
These include the Ministries of Local Government and Housing, Zamfara Geographic Information System, Anka Local Government Council, Anka Emirate Council, and relevant security agencies.
He added that a technical team is already on the ground in Anka, conducting field inspections, engaging community leaders, and carrying out professional assessments to ensure the project meets required planning, safety, and regulatory standards.
The committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Haruna Dikko, is expected to recommend a parcel of land to be formally designated for the project.
Under the arrangement, the Zamfara State Government will provide the land, while construction and aviation-related development will be undertaken by the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, subject to due process and statutory approvals.
