Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas has commissioned key livestock infrastructure, and the distribution of productive assets to livestock farmers, as part of efforts to improve food security in the state.
The programme which was flagged off under the world Bank assisted partnership on Livestock Productivity And Resilience Support Project targets to support the state’s livestock sector through support to thousands of farmers.
The World Bank funded Livestock Productivity And Resilience Support Project includes disease surveillance laboratory, solar-powered cold chain facility, artificial insemination centre, and a millk cooling van to improve livestock farming in Taraba State, and strengthen food security.
Governor Kefas, represented by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Professor Nicholas Nemassen launched the facilities at the State’s Veterinary Hospital Complex in Jalingo, and also flagged off the distribution of over 200 feeder choppers, and motorcycles to livestock farmers and extension service providers.
Professor Nemassen said, the infrastructure will strengthen animal health systems, improve disease detection and control, enhance livestock productivity, and support the One Health approach linking animal, human, and environmental health.
State Project Coordinator, Hananiah Albert, said the commissioning is a significant milestone, adding that the project has made targeted investments across priority livestock value chains for the state’s 16 Local Government Areas.
The Coordinator said the commissioned facilities were designed to address critical gaps in the state’s livestock sector.
