Terrorists operating within the Borgu Forest of Niger State, in what seems to be a daring statement, have launched an attack barely a few hours after the state government announced an offensive against them to clear the forest.
Niger State Governor, Umar Bago, had on Tuesday, January 13, given two months notice to people living in hamlets around Kainji Lake to come out of the area to be resettled by the Emirate Council.
The resettlement of the people has become necessary to avoid collateral damage, as the government says they want to begin a military offensive to flush out terrorists in the area.
But in a twist of an event, barely hours after the governor and his entourage left the emirate, terrorists were said to have attacked Kabe village in the Borgu local government area, killing an 85-year-old woman named Hajiya Amina Adamu in the process, although no case of abduction has been reported.
The terrorists, according to sources, came in at about 10 pm with many motorcycles and invaded the village, killing some people and making off with both food and non-food items. The number of kidnapped victims is still sketchy as of the time of writing this report.
Kabe is a few kilometres away from Kasuwan-Daji, where the terrorists had earlier killed about 42 villagers a few weeks ago, and they are operating within the area without any security presence despite the cries of the villagers for the government to come to their aid.
